The UMVERPACKUNG / OVERPACK 150 × 50 mm label is intended for marking overpacks, meaning situations where one or more packages containing dangerous goods are placed in an additional outer package, on a pallet, in a collective carton, crate, container or other overpack to facilitate transport and handling.
In practice, the OVERPACK marking is used when the required markings on inner packages are not clearly visible from the outside of the overpack. This may apply to ADR hazard labels, UN numbers, LQ marks, lithium battery marks, environmentally hazardous substance marks or other required information that may be covered by stretch film, cardboard, crates, containers, separators or palletising elements.
The UMVERPACKUNG / OVERPACK marking does not replace other required transport markings. If labels, UN numbers or other required markings on the packages inside the overpack are not visible, they should be repeated on the outside of the overpack in accordance with the requirements for the specific shipment.

- whether LQ marks, lithium battery marks, orientation arrows or environmental marks are visible if required,
- whether the marking used matches the transport documentation,
- whether carrier requirements are consistent with the selected marking method.
